There is no better way to gain skills in the medical profession than being an intern on one of our medical intern programs. Interns that participate on our program will get hands-on experience as a medical assistant, whilst also supporting and helping local nurses and doctors in their work. Medical professionals in Ecuador are generally very good practitioners though they often face difficulties with the availability of medicine and staff, As such, being an intern means you have the opportunity to be an important team member by being that extra hand to help out while gaining valuable experience and skills that can benefit your own professional development.
Your potential activities and tasks will include:
- Interns will help the nurses in their daily work with tasks such as taking vital signs, making sure patients get their medicines as prescribed by the doctor and assisting and comforting patients to make their time at the hospital is as comfortable as possible.
- As an intern, you will usually start helping in the accident and emergency department to get warmed up before moving on to other departments where help is needed and to give you an overall wide-ranging experience. * Please let us know if there is any special area or department you prefer to work within so we can tailor make your internship to suit your aspirations and needs.
- Though we can’t guarantee it, there is a good chance that you will be invited to observe in the operation room if you like, especially if you are a long-term intern. If your Spanish is of a good level, you may even be asked to assist the surgeons.
- Whether you're a healthcare professional or simply someone who wants to make a positive impact, there are many opportunities to volunteer and help those in need. By doing so, you'll not only help improve the health and well-being of those around you, but you'll also gain valuable skills and experiences that can benefit you both personally and professionally. So why not consider volunteering to provide medical care today and make a difference in the lives of others?
